District Attorney Scott Perrilloux took a first primary win over two challengers Saturday for a third term as 21st Judicial District DA.

The district is comprised of Tangipahoa, Livingston and St. Helena parishes.

Complete but unofficial returns show Perrilloux with 24,624 votes (51 percent). Sherman Mack garnered 17,689 (37 percent) and Vanessa Williams got 5,674 (12 percent).

Perrilloux thanked his supporters and all those who worked in his campaign.

He said he felt it was generally a negative campaign, with neither Mack nor Williams offering specifics as to what they would do differently if elected to the office.

With another term before him, Perrilloux said he will continue to look for ways to make the office of district attorney better.

His office has prosecuted some high profile criminal convictions over the past 12 years, and especially within the past year, that he feels only helped his re-election effort.

“I feel that our success with those high profile cases certainly helped our chances,” Perrilloux said of his re-election.

The Daily Star was unable to reach Williams or Mack for comment Saturday night.

" Would someone like to tell me what happended to the 3 strikes law?Perrilloux evidently doesn't know the meaning. Either that or he can't count to 3. My ex husband has seven, I repeat, 7 felony convictions, two of which were attempted murder. I personally had him arrested twice for domestic battery. Perrilloux had the attempted murder charges I filed, at the urging of the sheriff's deputy who took my statement, plea bargained or reduced in some way, down to some type of battery charge which was not a felony. This revoked his parole so he only did 9 months of what was an 18 month sentence. His original sentence for which he was allowed probation was 26 years. Needless to say he is again walking the streets. He recently had felony charges of distribution of methadone which was filmed by a C.I. How he got out of that I'll never know. This is a violent man who manages to charm his way into women's lives. It's only a matter of time before he kills one of them. He's had 144 arrests and 7 felony convictions. This is Tangi law at it best. Or should I say worst? "

" But he didn't go. That's the problem!

He could have gone.... Doesn't he have a lot of land in Mississippi somewhere? He could have gone there. Surely, he intends to go there at some point.

Isn't that what most of our politicians do once they've had their fill of us? They retire to the islands or to Colorado or they go to pasture at some farm somewhere. "

" Curious, if it helps any, I voted for Mack. I've got a hankering for change myself. "

" This is news in the same way that the sun rises in the morning is news. Mr. Ellsey should have went to bed early instead of bothering to post this late night article.

There was never any doubt that Mr. Perriloux would win. (Would you like me to pick all the other local winners of the various races for you? Take my hand as I crawl out on this limb: I predict all candidates running on a platform of anti-devil worship will be landslide victors!)

I did get a kick out of this paragraph in your story:

"With another term before him, Perrilloux said he will continue to look for ways to make the office of district attorney better."

Well now... it would seem to me, that if the voter's primary concern was a better D.A.'s office, Mr. Perrilloux would be out of a job. I love the way politicians co-opt words and phrases to the point where they mean absolutely nothing. Apparently when it comes to Tangipahao, Livingston and St. Helena parishes, the only change we can believe in is that which will be delivered by a 12 year incumbent. "
