FRISCO, Texas — Southeastern players are beginning to make appearances on the Southland Conference's honor role a weekly habit.
Sophomore receiver Andre Cryer was named Monday the SLC offensive Player of the Week after recording career-highs in receptions and yards in the Lions' 41-26 loss Saturday at Louisiana Tech. The award by Cryer, his first weekly honor by the league, marked the second consecutive week a Southeastern player claimed SLC offensive honors as Brian Babin was named for the first time last week.
Cryer, a former Kentwood High product, caught seven passes for 138 yards and a touchdown for the Lions. Cryer, who totaled 225 all-purpose yards in the game, caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from Chris Wilson in the second quarter that cut the Tech lead to 21-17. Cryer, who has averaged 16.5 yards on 14 receptions this season, added a pair of third-down catches that extended drives for the Lions.
Jeff Turner was an honorable mention selection for the conference's special teams Player of the Week for the second straight game. The junior kicker made 4 of 5 field goals and converted a pair of extra points for the Lions. Nicholls State return man Lardarius Webb received the honor.
The defensive Player of the Week was Texas State’s Courtney Smith.
Southeastern returns to action on Saturday when it hosts unbeaten North Dakota in a 6 p.m. game at Strawberry Stadium.
